Former Arsenal hitman Kevin Campbell has conceded that Willian is proving an ‘awful’ addition to the squad by Edu.

The Gunners beat out a number of clubs to sign the Brazilian winger on a free transfer last summer, following his release from Chelsea.

Despite being free, he’s costing Arsenal quite a lot of money after Willian signed a £220,000-a-week deal in North London, over the course of a three-year contract.

He is yet to score a goal in any of his 26 appearances across all competitions and Campbell admits that the player – who has picked up three assists over the last two weeks – hasn’t really hit the heights expected of him so far.

He told The Same Old Arsenal podcast: “Has he been great? No, he’s been awful up until the last couple of games. Willian knows the position, knows how to track consistently.”

It’s worth pointing out that although Willian has been pretty underwhelming, his form is improving.

He bagged another assist in Arsenal’s draw away to Burnley on Saturday, setting up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang inside the opening minutes.

But considering the Emirates Stadium side have committed to paying him over £30 million over the course of three years, he isn’t doing anywhere near enough to justify that.
