Speaking to Leeds United’s official YouTube channel, Lucas Radebe has hailed Kalvin Phillips for his performances under Marcelo Bielsa.
The ex-Leeds captain was speaking about the impact Bielsa has had at Leeds, claiming that the passion he has for the club rubs off on other players, with Phillips being the prime example.
Radebe would also go on to praise three more United stars, naming Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk and Ian Poveda as three he’s been particularly impressed by.
“And that passion rubs off to the players, I mean people like Kalvin Phillips, he’s been a revelation, he’s been absolutely fantastic,” Radebe said.
“Liam Cooper at the back, Struijk, you know Poveda, I’m so impressed with all of these individuals.”
This is massive praise from a true Leeds United legend.
Radebe knows what it’s about to play for Leeds at the highest level, after all, he was a pivotal member of the squad that reached the Champions League semi-finals, so for him to speak about Phillips in this way is great to hear.
Of course, the South African isn’t telling us anything we don’t already know. Phillips has arguably been one of the best holding midfielders in the country over the past 12 months, and the fact that he’s now a bona fide England international is a testament to his talent.
Let’s hope that Phillips can keep playing to such a high standard and the praise from legendary figures at Leeds continues.
