Roy Keane has claimed that Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, is ‘back in form now’ after scoring his 49th goal for England on Saturday.
England recorded a 2-1 win over Switzerland in an international friendly at Wembley, with Kane netting the winning goal from the penalty spot and Keane making it clear he was ‘never missing that’, as he told ITV Sport (26/03/22 at 11:10 pm).
It was a tough evening of football for the Three Lions in the capital, with not many players standing out.
But, when Kane was given the chance to strike from the penalty spot, after a handball from Steven Zuber, he didn’t hesitate in putting his goal away and surpassing Gary Lineker’s record on the international stage.
The England captain, who is on 49 goals for his country at 28, is now four behind Wayne Rooney’s all-time record, as Keane shared his thoughts on the player.
“He’s back in form now, Kane,” said Keane. “He has recovered after such a slow start to the season. He was never missing that (penalty).”
After a pretty average start to the season, Kane is starting to motor at the right time, more so for Tottenham.
The World Cup is in November, so from that perspective, Southgate needs his main striker at his best around that time.
But, for Antonio Conte, who is chasing Champions League football in north London, he needs his star man producing his best form right now.
And when he is, more than likely, Tottenham are walking away with three points, so his form, going into these final few months, might just prove to be very, very crucial in where his side finish when the final ball is kicked in May.
