Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been chatting about West Ham’s Declan Rice after his performance against Chelsea at the weekend.

Rice, along with a number of his other teammates, was absolutely excellent on Saturday as the Hammers got the better of Chelsea.

As ever, the midfielder was running the show, he covered every blade of grass, got stuck in and acted as a real general on the pitch.

Ferdinand was very impressed by Rice, claiming that he’s now bringing different elements to his game.

What’s been said about Rice?

Ferdinand had nothing but good things to say about Rice.

“Declan Rice man, wow, he’s going to different levels. I spoke about it with Joe Cole. He’s bringing different elements to his game, he’s not happy just standing still. He was brilliant during the Euros. Zola was on there and he said that the Italians after the game couldn’t believe we brought Declan Rice off because they really respected him as a player,” Ferdinand said.

“He’s adding bits to his game, I speak to him quite a bit and he’s always talking about wanting to do more. He wants to play with his left-foot, he wants to drive a bit more, and you see him drive now, he changes the pace of the game, he’s not just a holder anymore.”

Evolving

Ferdinand is absolutely right about Rice. He’s constantly evolving as a footballer.

This is a player who came through as a centre-back, before becoming an anchor man in the middle of the park, and now he’s a box-to-box machine.

The sky is the limit for this young man and if he continues to improve at this rate he will be one of the best midfielders in the planet before long.
