Tottenham fans have reacted on Twitter to Serge Aurier providing an assist for the Ivory Coast on Tuesday.

Aurier helped his home country record a 3-1 win against Ethiopia in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier – and Tottenham’s official Twitter account acknowledged their player.

Some Tottenham fans have praised their right-back for his much-needed form, as he now returns to club football.

With Matt Doherty returning from international duty with an injury, Tottenham’s £23 million star (BBC Sport) may well have to start their clash with Newcastle at the weekend.

But, Japhet Tangnaga, who is with England’s U21’s, was used in that role during Tottenham’s win against Aston Villa last time out.

Either way, Jose Mourinho has a much-needed headache because his biggest problem has been his defence this season and the lack of competition at the back.

It could be argued that Aurier is perhaps fighting for his future during these final few months because it wouldn’t be a surprise if a number of Tottenham stars are moved on when the transfer window re-opens.
