Hugo Lloris may be about to join a very elite club as he aims to become the very first player in history to win the World Cup twice as a captain.
While the likes of Pele and Cafu have won multiple World Cups, nobody has ever won this tournament on two occasions while wearing the captain’s armband.
Not only has Lloris been a brilliant captain for France, he’s been one of Les Blues’ standout performers at this tournament.
He’s made crucial saves at every stage, and he was at it again on Wednesday evening.
Lloris was crucial as France survived a Moroccan onslaught in the semi-finals, and he earned plaudits from the French press for his showing.

Lloris hailed
EuroSport gave Lloris a glowing review on Wednesday, giving him a 7/10 rating.
“He saved the nation again. Lloris warmed up his gloves with a beautiful horizontal save in front of Ounahi (10th) but we will especially remember his fantastic parade on the return of El Yamiq (45th). His end to the first period relieved a collective in agony and he even relieved his defenders on outings in the middle of traffic,” They wrote.
“In short. On his line, he’s a monster.”
One of the greats
Say what you will about Hugo Lloris’ recent form for Tottenham, when all is said and done, he will go down as one of France football’s greatest players.
Whether or not France win on Sunday, the goalkeeper’s legacy is secure. He’s been excellent at three World Cups in a row, and could well end up with two winners’ medals.
France have produced some of the best footballers in history over the years, and Lloris certainly belongs in the pantheon of the all-time greats.
