‘He’s a great footballer’: Oxlade-Chamberlain gushes over £7m Liverpool player

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has lavished praise on Liverpool teammate Takumi Minamino following his instant goal on Saturday night.

Liverpool hammered 4-0 Arsenal at Anfield to move second in the Premier League table at the time.

And it was the Reds’ Japan international who scored his side’s fourth goal, tapping home from close range.

Minamino got himself on the scoresheet within seconds of coming on in the final quarter.

And Oxlade-Chamberlain says that the former Salzburg winger – a £7 million signing in 2019 – thoroughly deserves it for the work he puts in behind the scenes.

He told Liverpool’s official website: “It’s always nice and I haven’t had many of them, coming off the bench and nicking a goal straight away.

“But he deserves that, he’s worked really hard, he’s kept his head down and he’s a great footballer.”

Here to stay?

Liverpool loaned the 26-year-old to Southampton for the second half of last season.

But from January onwards, it’ll be a surprise if Jurgen Klopp offloads him again.

That’s because with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane heading off for the Africa Cup of Nations, the Merseysiders just can’t afford to lose him.

Well, they could if they were going to sign a couple of wingers, but this seems hugely unlikely.

The two Liverpool stars will be heading off around a month from now and Klopp would love if Minamino’s goal against the Gunners set the tone for a fruitful period for him.
