Villa’s Premier League misfit Trezeguet will have big boots to fill if he joins Super Lig champions Trabzonspor this summer, former Turkey international Nihat Kahveci tells 61 TrabzonHaber.
You can say that again.
Last season, Anthony Nwakaeme produced 13 goals and 10 assists as Trabzonspor claimed the Turkish title for the first time since the 1980s. His departure, on a free transfer no less, means Trezeguet has boots the size of the canoes that must be filled should he leave Aston Villa for a fresh start on the banks of the Black Sea.
Fotomac claim that Villa have reached an agreement with Trabzonspor. Trezeguet is entering the final 12 months of his contract and will therefore be sold for a cut-price figure of just £4 million.
Trabzonspor set to sign Trezeguet from Aston Villa
“Trezeguet has been spoken about,” says Nihat, one of the stars of Turkey’s run to the semi-finals of Euro 2008.
“Trezeguet contributes a lot. He is a good player. But Nwakaeme was a magician. Can he replace him? Frankly, I don’t know. But what I know and believe is that, if Trezeguet arrives, he will set up a lot of goals for (striker Andreas) Cornelius.”

According to reports, the Egypt international will earn £35,000-a-week at Trabzonspor.
And his excellent track record in Turkish football certainly bodes well. Trezeguet made a huge impact on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir during the second half of last seson. And it was a prolific spell at Kasimpasa that paved the way for his £9 million move to Villa Park during the summer of 2019.
Aston Villa have snapped up Diego Carlos, Boubacar Kamara and Philippe Coutinho during what looks set to be a busy summer of incomings and outgoings. Matt Targett has joined Newcastle United on a permanent basis. Anwar El Ghazi, Bertrand Traore, Kortney Hause and co could follow Trezeguet out the door.
Frederic Guilbert, meanwhile, believes that he too has played his final game in claret-and-blue.
