Bobby Zamora has encouraged Tottenham Hotspur to make a shock approach for Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa.
Tottenham, who lost 3-1 to Bielsa’s side on Saturday, are in the market for a new manager after firing Jose Mourinho last month.
Ryan Mason has been put in charge as Spurs’ caretaker manager but the 29-year-old is unlikely to get the long-term position due to inexperience.
Bielsa is doing wonders for a Leeds side who sit ninth in the Premier League table on their first year back in the top flight.
The legendary Argentine arrived at Elland Road in the summer of 2018, a month after the Whites posted a 13th-placed Championship finish.
Leeds have been a breath of fresh air in the Premier League and Zamora, speaking to Stadium Astro, believes that he could be perfect for Daniel Levy in North London.
He told Stadium Astro: “Why wouldn’t you go and get him? In terms of the fans I think they’d love to see that attacking style of football, that passion. He produced the goods at Leeds and no disrespect to them, those players haven’t got the quality Spurs do. They have the organisation, the work rate, the desire that’s been installed in them by Bielsa. I think he’s a fantastic manager and if they were going to get somebody, I don’t think they should look much further than Bielsa.”
A lot of managers have been linked with the Tottenham post but Bielsa isn’t one of them.
But will he leave Leeds? In short, more than likely not.
At 65 years of age, there’s likely more emphasis on sentiment for the South American than climbing the managerial ladder.
Tottenham are undeniably a bigger club than the Elland Road side, but he seems perfectly happy in West Yorkshire and why wouldn’t he be?
The former Athletic Bilbao, Lazio and Marseille coach is absolutely adored by Leeds players and fans alike and he might well be excited about how much better he can do yet – and so he should be.
