Jamie Carragher has raved about Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, just weeks after he was linked with a move to Liverpool.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, which was broadcast by Sky Sports, Carragher was analysis the improvements in Villa’s defensive work this season.
Dean Smith’s side have actually conceded fewer goals than Liverpool this term, which perhaps isn’t a huge surprise given the Reds injury problems.
The Athletic now say that Jurgen Klopp is eyeing up central defensive targets ahead of the summer transfer window, with Konsa on his radar.
And judging by Carragher’s view on the English centre-back, he would welcome the move if Liverpool did bring Konsa to Anfield.
‘The goalkeeper has made a massive difference, and a player I just want to highlight as well is Konsa alongside Tyrone Mings. That triangle has been huge for them,” he said.
“Konsa has made more blocks than anyone else in the Premier League this season, he’s a brilliant defender and he’s made a huge difference.

“Honestly I can’t talk enough about how impressed I’ve seen with him defensively. He doesn’t do silly things. He’s very brave at getting the blocks in.”
Konsa showed signs of promise last season following his £12 million move (BBC Sport), but this term he has really proven his ability to play at the top level.
Liverpool and Tottenham’s reported interest in him, therefore, comes as no surprise.
If Konsa was to move to Liverpool he would have big competition next campaign – with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk set to be fit again.
But Klopp has seen the need for extra depth in defence, and it does seem that signing a new central defender will be high on Liverpool’s priority list in the summer.
