Dayot Upamecano has stated that former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is a ‘quality player’ and he is hoping he scores more goals for France at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Bayern Munich centre-back added that Giroud is a ‘big talker’ in the dressing room and a leader, as he chases history on football’s biggest stage.

After leaving Arsenal for £18 million in 2018 (Sky Sports), Giroud has continued to rise, despite some thinking he was coming towards the end of his career.

The 36-year-old, if he scores one more goal at the 2022 World Cup, will become France’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing a certain Highbury legend, Thierry Henry.

Well, Upamecano, who has seen what the ice-cool Giroud is like first-hand, had nothing but praise for the AC Milan striker, as he told beIN SPORTS.

“We know he is a quality player,” said Upamecano. “He is a great striker and leader. He is a big talker. He is always delighted to score. I hope he goes on to score more.”

GIROUD SET TO BECOME FRANCE’S ALL-TIME LEADING GOALSCORER

At 51 goals, Giroud already has written his name into the French legendary books, but he’ll go up a few levels by nodding one more in Qatar.

During his career, he has always been a marmite-like figure because he’s not a devastating finisher like Sergio Aguero or as silky as Kylian Mbappe.

But, one thing is for sure, those around him or that have played with him, deem him to be one of the best they have played with simply because he gets the best out of them.
