Hertha Berlin boss Bruno Labbadia has told Kicker that Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi put in a ‘good debut’ yesterday.

Guendouzi was brought off the bench just before the hour mark, in Hertha’s game against Wolfsburg yesterday.

The Arsenal loanee was his usual lively self, as he looked to impress on his first Bundesliga display.

And Labbadia says that Guendouzi made a strong start to life with his side, although he is yet to really get into the ‘rhythm’ of his side.

“A good debut, for having been in quarantine for eleven days,” Labbadia said.

“You have seen that he is a very good ball player who gives us a note that we need: ball security, simple clear passes over four or five meters. That did us good .

“Of course he has to get into a rhythm first, that’s something he can’t have, we know that, but that’s the way it is now. “

Hertha ultimately played out a 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg yesterday.

Guendouzi will now likely be hoping that his display off the bench has earned him a starting place in the future.

Arsenal fans will be keeping close eyes on Guendouzi during his loan spell.

The youngster remains a fairly popular figure at the Emirates Stadium, with many fans feeling that he is capable of developing into a star.

And there is hope that with a year of first-team football under his belt, Guendouzi could still return to Arsenal and make a success of himself in North London.
