Well, Rangers won’t be playing Champions League football next season.
Steven Gerrard’s side fell at the first hurdle after being dumped out of the qualification phase at Ibrox on Tuesday night.
Rangers were massive favourites to progress into the next round because they were beating Malmo on away goals by half time – and with the Swedes reduced to 10 men just before the break, it wasn’t looking good.
But the visitors produced a stunning comeback in the second half, scoring twice to win 2-1 on the night and 4-2 on aggregate in spite of their numerical disadvantage.
Pontus Jansson began his career at Malmo, before joining Leeds United and later Brentford in a £5.5 million transfer from Elland Road.
And the big defender, who could make his Premier League debut against Arsenal on Friday, has reacted to the Rangers comeback on Twitter.
Livid
This is the light Blues’ third defeat on the bounce and Gerrard will be absolutely livid.
Last night will particularly annoy the Rangers boss because they should absolutely be in the hat for the next round.
For a team that went 40 league games undefeated until this past weekend, this is a disastrous run of form for the Ibrox outfit and Gerrard has his work cut out to turn it around.
