West Ham’s exciting additions of Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic have the ability to take the club to the next level.
West Ham United were plagued by injuries last season and as a result The Hammers ended the campaign in a disappointing 11th position, four places below their 7th place finish the season before.
To address the issue of depth in the squad, West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has added four quality players to his team so far: Joe Hart (loan), Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez.
The latter two acquisitions have added firepower to the team, and West Ham fans will undoubtedly be excited at the prospect of the club’s attacking talents coming together. Austrian international Arnautovic has shown flashes of brilliance during his time at Stoke.
A winger who can score and create goals from anywhere is invaluable, and despite his inconsistency at times, the 28-year-old has that capability in abundance.
The signing of Mexican national team record goal-scorer Hernandez is the name on most lips, though, a player remembered fondly for his time in the Premier League with Manchester United.
The striker, purchased from Bayer Leverkusen for around £16m, has the seventh best minute to goal ratio (130.2) in Premier League history, highlighting his prowess in the box as a finisher. West Ham fans will be hoping that Hernandez turns out to be the centre-forward their club has needed for years.
I’s been a good transfer window for West Ham so far, and fans will believe that there’s every reason that the heights hit in 2015/16 could be reached again this coming season.
