The Sunderland boss has confirmed his interest in Bury’s top scorer.
Sunderland’s need for striking reinforcements is evident, following the loss of Jermain Defoe, Fabio Borini and Victor Anichebe.
And given that Vaughan scored 24 goals for Bury last season – albeit in the third tier – not to mention his previous of having working under Grayson at Huddersfield Town, Sunderland’s interest should come as little surprise.

But what attributes – other than goals – would the 28-year-old bring to the Stadium of Light?
This is what Grayson told Huddersfield’s official website of Vaughan, after signing him the first time around: “Crucially, he has plenty of pace.
“He is a determined character with a high work rate and he is a player with something to prove. He has played at this level [the Championship] before and is comfortable at it, which is perfect for us.”
The Birmingham born player began his career at Everton and became the Premier League’s youngest ever scorer in 2005.
Bury’s James Vaughan
Fitness problems stunted his progress, however, and culminated in a slide down the divisions with Huddersfield, Birmingham City and Bury, via another top flight stint at Norwich City.
Should Sunderland pursue their Vaughan interest?
