Glasgow Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn has been linked with an exit.
Glasgow Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn’s future looks bleak amid reports he is seeking an exit from the club.
The forward was prolific last season for the Gers as he helped them win promotion, but he has found it far tougher this campaign, and is no longer a regular in the side.
The Sun report that Waghorn is disappointed not to have been offered a lucrative new deal at Ibrox and is considering his options – with clubs in England keen to sign last season’s top-scorer for Rangers.

If he does leave it will be a dramatic fall from grace at Rangers for a striker who was hero worshipped this time last season.
Waghorn was not expecting to be in this position, as can be seen from comments he made six months ago.

Speaking to The Sun back in April, Waghorn made very clear that he saw his future at Rangers, and said that he would not find a club anywhere near as big.
He said at the time: “I’m really happy and you won’t get many places where you can compete for three or four trophies every season.
“It would take a lot for me to even think about moving again. I’m really happy.
“Hopefully we’ll have a successful campaign next season but Rangers is a huge club and it won’t get much bigger wherever I go.
“As long as we keep progressing and winning as a team then I’m more than happy to stay.”

The takeaway looking back now at Waghorn’s comments, is that he is simply no longer enjoying his football.
Rangers do not look like they will fulfil his hopes of challenging for trophies this season, already eliminated from the BetFred Cup, and a title challenge in the Premiership looks beyond them already.
On top of that, he is not starting regularly, with Joe Garner preferred, and the Joey Barton furore has undoubtedly soured atmosphere at the club, in between back to back losses to Celtic, and the challenge of facing more competitive teams in the top flight.
Combine all this along with his lack of goals and his contract dispute, and the season could hardly have gone worse for the former Sunderland and Wigan striker.
The questions which remain, are whether he is willing to, and is good enough to stick it out, and if Rangers want him to lead the line long term or not.
