Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen has still not scored a goal in the Premier League from open play.

When Tottenham Hotspur signed Vincent Janssen, Jamie Redknapp named him as one of the top 10 players to watch in the Premier League this season in the Daily Mail.

Redknapp had been told by Ruud Gullit that Janssen had the potential to be as good as Luis Suarez.

And Redknapp was very enthused by what the Dutch striker could do at White Hart Lane.

He said: “I was chatting to Ruud Gullit last week and he was talking very highly of this boy. The last Dutch league export he talked up this much was Luis Suarez, so if Janssen is half as good he’ll be all right!

“The Dutch league has given us as many Mateja Kezmans as it has Dennis Bergkamps, but I’m hoping he’s the latter.

“A left-footed striker who can play out wide, Janssen is a real workhorse and his goals should take the heat off Harry Kane.”

Unfortunately for Janssen, things at Spurs have not gone according to plan.

The Holland international has struggled badly in his first season in English football.

While Janssen has shown flashes of promise – and his recent display against Swansea was particularly eye catching – he simply hasn’t done enough when starting to win all the doubters over.

Janssen still has not scored from open play in the Premier League.

And while Janssen may be given one more season to prove his worth at Tottenham, it is fair to say that he has fallen short of Redknapp’s rather high expectations.
