Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom worked with Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce at Hull City.

According to a report in the Express and Star, Aston Villa are attempting to seal a loan deal for Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom, and Steve Bruce could be the key to any deal being done.

Akpom linked up with Bruce last season at Hull City, and enjoyed a good relationship with the 56-year-old manager.

Speaking of their link up, Akpom said to the Daily Mail: “We are close. We get along. He understands me, and tells me when I have gone wrong and when I have gone right.”

Bruce obviously regards Akpom highly too, and feels that the 21-year-old would be a good option for Villa.

Akpom has not featured for Arsenal this season, and Arsene Wenger is now keen for the youngster to gain some more first-team experience while out on loan.

The England youth international did fairly well at Hull, scoring seven times in 42 appearances across all competitions.

Bruce obviously saw enough in the prospect to suggest that he would enhance Villa’s forward options.

The claret and blues are known to be looking at a new front man, as Bruce looks to increase the potency of his attack.

Villa have completed three signings so far during the January transfer window, with Sam Johnstone, Henri Lansbury and James Bree arriving.
