Aston Villa are taking Hereford goalkeeper Max Harris on trial.
Hereford manager Pete Beadle has told the Hereford Times that goalkeeper Max Harris will be on trial with Aston Villa this week.
Villa have prioritised signing experienced veterans this summer, with John Terry, Ahmed Elmohamady and Glenn Whelan – all of whom have more than 150 Premier League appearances to their name – arriving.
Aston Villa’s Sam Johnstone celebrates
The only player under the age of 29 to join Villa this summer is Sam Johnstone, as the Manchester United goalkeeper has re-signed on a season-long loan deal.
Now, despite also having Mark Bunn, Jed Steer and Matija Sarkic available, manager Steve Bruce may now push for another goalkeeper to join the ranks at Villa Park – and this one really would be for the future.
Hereford boss Pete Beadles has told the Hereford Times that young goalkeeper Max Harris is heading for a trial spell with Villa this week, but will be available to play for Hereford in their friendly against Cardiff City Under-23’s.
Harris, 17, has come up through the ranks with Hereford, and whilst he is pushing to make a name for himself in the first team at Edgar Street, he may end up earning a move to Villa.

Bruce’s men will now take a closer look at the teenage shot-stopper, who has been called up by the England Schoolboys, ahead of a possible move for the player.
Ultimately, the trail could lead to nothing permanent, but with former non-league stars such as Chris Smalling, Michail Antonio, Charlie Austin and Jamie Vardy all now in the Premier League, it’s smart of Villa to look for the next non-league gem – which could be goalkeeper Harris.
