Arsenal’s hopes of bringing Joao Cancelo to the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window are seemingly over, with the Manchester City full-back reportedly about to move to Barcelona.

Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Manchester City and Barcelona are now exchanging documents for Joao Cancelo, who has been linked with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Arsenal target Joao Cancelo to join Barcelona

The Italian journalist has claimed that the Portugal international full-back will travel to Barcelona tonight.

The 29-year-old full-back, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich from City, will join La Liga champions Barcelona on a loan deal.

This means that Arsenal will now not be able to sign Cancelo this summer.

It was only on August 18 when 90min reported interest in Cancelo from Arsenal.

The report claimed that Arsenal were in talks with the full-back over a deal to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners were in talks with Cancelo’s representatives, according to the report.

90min claimed that Arsenal were/are in the market to sign a full-back due to the long-term injury to Jurrien Timber, who joined the North London club only this summer.

And it seems that Arsenal’s search for a full-back will go on.

Cancelo is one of the best full-backs around, and his ability to play on either flank is a big advantage.

We are not at all surprised that Arsenal want(ed) to sign the Portuguese star.

Barcelona will be a better team with Cancelo in it.

The full-back has made 98 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

Cancelo has scored five goals, given 11 assists, and kept 41 clean sheets in those games.

It will be interesting to see which full-back Arsenal will now target.

Time is running out for the Gunners.
