Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are about to complete the signing of Deivid Washington in the summer transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Chelsea will sign Deivid Washington from Santos.

The Italian journalist has claimed that Washington will fly to London on Monday to complete the move to Chelsea.

The former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners will pay Brazilian club Santos an initial transfer fee of €16 million (£13.80 million) plus €4 million (£3.45 million) in add-ons.

Romano has reported that Chelsea will hand the 18-year-old striker a six-year contract with a one-year option.

Deivid Washington is a player for the future for Chelsea

In our opinion, Chelsea should view Deivid Washington as a player for the future and should not expect the striker to make an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge.

After all, Washington is only 18 years of age and has played just a handful of games for Santos.

It would be too much to expect the striker to make an immediate impact at Chelsea.

We believe that Chelsea should be patient with Washington and should not rush him.

It could take a while for Washington to get used to life in England and to the intensity of football in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will be pleased with their performance against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in London in the Premier League this past weekend.

Although Liverpool were the better team in the first half, Chelsea stepped up their game in the second period and could have won the match in the end.

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino will be pleased with how his players responded to going a goal down after just 18 minutes.

The Blues’ main objective this season has to be to end up in the Premier League top four.
