Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is attracting Aston Villa’s attention nearly a year after Rushian Hepburn-Murphy was linked with an Ibrox move.

Back in December 2016, the Daily Record suggested that Aston Villa striker Rushian Hepburn-Murphy was seriously considering leaving the Villans at the end of his contract after struggling to break into the side – and Rangers were one of the sides ready to offer him a fresh start.

Ultimately, Hepburn-Murphy would ignore the Gers’ interest and sign a new three-and-half year deal with the Villans in February, as reported by BBC Sport.

But perhaps there is a chance that one of the current Gers strikers could exacerbate any frustrations remaining for the 19-year-old as he is reportedly attracting Villa’s attention.

According to a recent report from The Scotsman, the Villans are one of the teams that are scouting Rangers summer signing Alfredo Morelos, who has made a blistering start to life at Ibrox.

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Colombian has found the back of the net regularly since joining the Gers, so it is not really a surprise that Villa and some of their Championship rivals appear to be looking at him.

And should Villa ultimately win the race for Morelos’ signature at some stage in the future, perhaps Hepburn-Murphy will find himself even further down the pecking order and facing an even more difficult task trying to get into the team, especially if Morelos makes a similar start to life at Villa Park to the one he has made with Rangers.

So nearly a year after ignoring Rangers’ interest, it appears that there is just the slightest chance that it could be a Gers striker who leaves the teenager ruing his decision to stay put if Villa do manage to lure Morelos away from the Scottish Premiership.
