The Armenian scored Manchester United’s opener.

Manchester United qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League with an impressive win away to Zorya Luhansk.

The Red Devils had lost their previous two away games, and ended up progressing in second place in their group behind Fenerbahce.

The star of the show was Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has scored against Zorya before, during his spell with Shakhtar Donetsk.

After the 2-0 win, which Zlatan Ibrahimovic finished off in stoppage time, Mkhitaryan sent a message to supporters via Twitter, expressing his pure delight at getting on the scoresheet, and making a vow to soon do the same at Old Trafford.

Mkhitaryan has only recently returned to the team after being omitted by manager Jose Mourinho, who was concerned the summer signing was not yet up to speed.

His excellent solo goal against Zorya Luhansk demonstrated that he is well and truly ready, and arguably even more motivated to be a success.

As for Mkhitaryan’s vow to score at Old Trafford, there would be no better time than this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.

United need a win to close the gap on fifth placed Spurs to three points, but a loss would see the six point advantage increased to nine.
