Tottenham Hotspur appear to be closing in on their new manager with Paulo Fonseca looking likely to replace Jose Mourinho.
Spurs’ manager hunt is almost at the two month mark, but with Fabio Paratici coming in as director of football, things are starting to move.
Sky Italia report that Fonseca is poised to land the Tottenham job, and could be appointed in the middle of next week.
Fonseca – similar to Tuchel?
Fonseca isn’t a huge name in English football right now, and some have been left baffled by Tottenham’s move for him.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a big fan though, telling Football Italia earlier this year that he thinks Fonseca and Thomas Tuchel are similar.
“Paulo Fonseca’s a bit similar to Tuchel in that he’s trying to put players in the right position and giving them the freedom to enjoy their football,” said Mkhitaryan.
Mkhitaryan played under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund before working with Fonseca at Roma, so he’s well-placed to make such a comparison.

Can Fonseca really be Tottenham’s Tuchel?
This could be a long shot given that Tuchel has already won the Champions League for Chelsea and landed a top four finish.
Fonseca’s goals at Tottenham would be much different too, given the different in quality of their squads and size of budget.
Yet if Fonseca can bring a real identity to this Tottenham side and knit the team together as quickly as Tuchel has at Chelsea, then he could be a huge success.
