The midfielder moved to Aston Villa in January despite reported interest from Norwich City – but he was ineffective in Saturday’s meeting.
Henri Lansbury may have been on the winning side as Aston Villa darkened the mood at Norwich City with a 2-0 triumph. But another sub-par performance has only raised further concerns about his impact, or lack thereof, at Villa Park.
In 12 Championship appearances since arriving from Nottingham Forest in January, Lansbury is yet to produce either a goal or an assist. And, on Saturday afternoon, he never looked like ended that barren run. Therefore, few Canaries fans would have migrated back to Anglia wishing they, rather than Villa, had snapped up the midfielder in January, as reported by The Sun.
The publication claims that Norwich had attempted to muscle in on Villa’s drawn-out attempts to sign the former Arsenal youngster.
After he netted six goals from midfield in an underperforming Nottingham Forest side in the first half of the season, Lansbury appeared the type of dynamic, forceful midfielder required to ignite their promotion push.
Instead, however, his performances for the Midlands club have failed to live up to expectations thus far. Even in Saturday’s triumph over Alan Irvine’s visitors, Lansbury once again drew the ire of a number of Villa supporters for a rather ineffectual display in midfield.
While second-half substitute Gary Gardner copped most of the flak, the 26-year-old failed to even register a shot in his 88 minutes on the pitch despite his goalscoring tendencies being one of the major reasons behind Villa making him a top target in January.
And although his Norwich counterparts Jonny Howson and Graham Dorrans were far from influential as The Canaries slipped ever further away from the top six, their failure to land Lansbury won’t give too many supporters sleepless nights.
