Aston Villa fans endured a tough time of it last season in the Championship.

Henri Lansbury has paid tribute to Aston Villa fans, in an interview with the club’s official website.
The Aston Villa supporters endured a tough 2016-17 campiagn.
First, former manager Roberto Di Matteo only won one of his first 11 Championship matches – despite spending over £50 million last summer – in a run of form which arguably derailed the fans’ hopes of bouncing straight back into the Premier League.

Steve Bruce replaced the Italian in October and managed to steady the ship a little, but the Villans still finished 13th in the table and it is clear that huge improvement is needed next season if they are to win promotion back to the top flight.
Nevertheless, Lansbury, a January signing, is “really excited” about next season and the former Arsenal man takes comfort in knowing that the “amazing and incredible” supporters will back him and his team-mates all the way.

“I can’t say enough about the Villa fans, either. I know last season came on the back of an incredibly difficult season with relegation but they still came out in huge numbers to back the team. That tells you everything,” he told the club’s website.
“They love this club and want it to succeed. The following home and away since I’ve been here has been amazing…incredible really… and it’s certainly not gone unnoticed in the dressing room.
“I am really excited about next season. We know the fans will come in their numbers and back the team week-in and week-out and it’s our job to go out there and do the job for them.”
