Celtic managed to progress past the Polish side in 2014 on a technicality and the former Rangers defender is still not happy with the way it played out.
Despite the Polish outfit beating Ronny Deila’s side in both legs of the qualifying fixture, Celtic went through on away goals after Legia fielded an ineligible player, resulting in an official 3-0 victory for the Hoops.
It was a massive drama at the time and a huge boost for the Scottish champions who had been outclassed on the field over the two matches.
Speaking this week ahead of Rangers’ clash with the foreign club in the UEFA Europa League, Berg still sounds unhappy with how it all went down.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: “I don’t think a situation like this can ever leave you. It will stay with you for the rest of your life.
“What happened goes against every fair play rule in history. For Celtic to go through on away goals after being given a 3-0 victory was not right.
“From a sporting and football point of view, it was a catastrophe.”
Deila couldn’t even inspire his team to go on and take advantage of the situation, eventually dumped into the group stages of the Europa League after a defeat to Maribor.
For Celtic it’s simply become a historical curiosity and a rather amusing affair to conjures up memories of a complete Polish meltdown.
Ultimately UEFA were right to enforce their rules and the Hoops couldn’t do anything but defend their own corner and the reap the benefits of Legia’s mistake.
Clearly though Berg others don’t see it like that.
The Hoops will be hoping they can progress past their upcoming European tie against AIK a lot more convincingly.
