Steve Bruce has been in charge at Aston Villa since October 2016.
Aston Villa icon Lee Hendrie has backed Steve Bruce in the manager’s hunt for Championship promotion after being asked whether or not he was the man for the job on Twitter.
Following three successive wins in November, Bruce has failed to pick up a victory in December. Three draws and two losses, including Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Brentford, has seen the Midlands outfit slip into eighth.
Bruce’s side were in contention for a place in the top two earlier this season, but are now three points behind sixth-placed Sheffield United.
Former Villa midfielder Hendrie was asked if he believes Bruce is the right man to take the club forward, and Hendrie defended Bruce by stating that changing managers can “easily back fire”.
Bruce is without last season’s top scorer Jonathan Kodjia at the moment, as well as former England and Chelsea captain John Terry who are both sidelined – and their return will surely improve a stagnant Villa side.
Villa now face two crucial Championship matches in the coming days, facing Middlesbrough who have recently sacked Garry Monk and appointed Tony Pulis before going up against second-placed Bristol City on New Year’s Day.
