Liam Henderson is way down the pecking order at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers.

Brendan Rodgers has quickly become one of Celtic’s greatest managers in their esteemed history after completing a marvellous treble last season, and breaking the unbeaten domestic record this time around.

On Sunday, he is expected to add a fourth trophy to his Celtic haul, as the Hoops face Motherwell at Hampden Park in the Betfred Cup final as Stephen Robinson’s looks to defy the odds and end their 64-match run without loss.

For most, Rodgers’ time at the helm has been a dream come true. Fans are full of praise, squad harmony seems to be at an all-time high and pundits are effusive in their plaudits.

But for some of the Hoops squad, it will demoralising to watch their teammates perform week in, week out, while they are left out in the cold waiting for the odd few minutes of game time.

Brendan Rodgers, coach of Celtic looks on after the UEFA Champions League group B match between Paris Saint-Germain and Celtic FC at Parc des Princes on November 22, 2017 in Paris, France.

Playmaker Liam Henderson is likely to be feeling exactly that, as he has managed just 23 minutes of football all season and is about to enter the final six months of his Parkhead contract.

Now 21 years of age, the Hoops academy product was rated as one of the rising stars of Celtic’s youth team during his teens and successful loan spells at Rosenborg and Hibernian continued to prove just that.

Rodgers replaced Ronny Deila last summer and it saw Henderson go from Celtic’s next big thing to a waste of potential, managing just six starts last season for the Hoops and on sub appearance this term.

Earning £2,500 at Celtic according to the Daily Star, Henderson desperately needs to move in January in order to prevent his career from falling by the wayside.

A move down south into the Football League is probably his best bet, with the likes of Stefan Johansen, Jackson Irvine and Biram Kayal all doing exactly the same and profiting from such a move.

But remaining at Celtic to fight his cause will just see Henderson’s career continue to grow deeper and deeper into a pool of wasted talent.
