Garth Crooks has written on BBC Sport that Liverpool simply cannot allow Jordan Henderson to leave.

The former Tottenham Hotspur forward has said that just as Liverpool let Georginio Wijnaldum leave this summer, they cannot do the same with club captain Henderson.

Crooks made the comments about the 31-year-old while explaining his decision to include him in his BBC Premier League Team of the Week.

Liverpool won against Burnley in the Premier League at the weekend, with Henderson playing a big role.

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “Have Liverpool lost their mind? They have allowed Georginio Wijnaldum to leave Anfield and surely they can’t be contemplating the same thing happening with Henderson

“The Liverpool captain was back in the side against Burnley and dictating play in the middle of the park like Andre Previn used to conduct the London Symphony Orchestra. Henderson was at his commanding best.”

Jordan Henderson situation

Henderson was linked with moves away from Liverpool earlier this summer, but the latest indication is that the ex-Sunderland star will sign a new deal with the former Premier League and European champions.

The Athletic reported last month that Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain and La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are interested in Henderson.

The midfielder – who has been on the books of the Reds since 2011 when he joined from Sunderland for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £20 million – has entered the final two years of his contract at Liverpool.

However, The Athletic claimed only last week that a new deal will be signed.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp himself has said that Henderson will put pen to paper on a new deal and commit his future.

The indication is that Henderson will stay at Liverpool for the foreseeable future.

And it was always very, very unlikely that Liverpool would sell Henderson this summer.
