Jordan Henderson has lauded the ‘frightening talent’ of young Liverpool team-mate Harvey Elliott.

Liverpool signed the young attacker on a permanent deal from Fulham last summer, when the player was only 16.

And despite a lot of expectation, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has protected him from the limelight for the most part, only giving him six minutes of Premier League football all season.

But Elliott has already made his senior debut for the club and featured heavily in their FA Cup and League Cup campaigns, starting six games across both competitions.

Club captain Henderson is hopeful that the teenager can develop his attitude and mentality to match his undeniable ability, and claims that he is so excited by seeing the player he becomes down the line.

Henderson told Liverpool’s website: “Harvey is in a very different stage of his development to Curtis, because of his age, but nonetheless the same lessons apply. His talent is frightening. But again, ability gets you so far and then mentality and attitude have to match it.

“We’ve seen Harvey grow as a player and a person during this campaign and what excites me most of all is that there is still so much more room for development. He gets that as well.

“You can see he has a hunger and thirst for learning from the coaches and from the other players.

This season was never about Elliott getting minutes.

Yes, he arrived with a bit of a reputation already, but he joined the European champions at the time.

Elliott is very much one for the future and even if he doesn’t feature more often in the Premier League next season, it’s okay.

After all, he’s still just 17.
