Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld spoke to Belgian outlet HLN about Jose Mourinho.

The defender is a regular at Tottenham and he has been performing well. Alderweireld has played nine games so far this season and Spurs have lost just once when he has started.

The 31-year-old was asked about his relationship with Mourinho, and his comments hint why the Tottenham boss has kept Dele Alli away from the squad since the end of the transfer window.

Alderweireld said: “Things are going well between Mourinho and me. Everyone has a certain idea of him, that he can be very tough. But if you work for him and go through fire, then he is really on your side. But if you’re going to be annoying because you’re not playing, he’ll push you aside.”

Mourinho has pushed Alli aside

The Belgian is certainly on Mourinho’s good side and he is playing regularly as a result. However, Alli is not in the picture, and his attitude behind the scenes might just be why.

The former MK Dons man hasn’t played a game for Spurs since coming on as a substitute against Manchester United at the start of October. He hasn’t even made the bench since that game at Old Trafford, which might mean that Mourinho is done with him.

Alli was a star under Mauricio Pochettino. He played 194 times for Tottenham when the Argentine was at the helm, and directly contributed to 107 goals in that period.

The Englishman was viewed by many as an undisputed starter at Tottenham, but it looks like a move away in the January transfer window is the best thing for all parties.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain showed a lot of interest earlier this summer (Telegraph). A move to the Parc des Princes would be a fresh start for Alli and, if that option arises in January, he should take it.
