Ian Wright has claimed that former Tottenham Hotspur striker Carlos Vinicius has a ‘point to prove’ after earning his first start for Fulham on Sunday.

The 27-year-old spent a season on-loan at Spurs when Jose Mourinho was in the north London dugout, but the club opted against keeping him on board.

On transfer deadline day, he made a return to Premier League colours when Marco Silva brought him back to England and Fulham paid Benfica £5 million for his talents (Standard).

Just like at Tottenham with Harry Kane, he has been brought in to play a back-up role, this time to the free-scoring, Aleksandar Mitrovic.

But the Serbian’s injury last week opened the door for Carlos Vinicius to earn some game time, and then over the weekend, he earnt his first start.

Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t able to get on the scoresheet as Fulham suffered a defeat away at their London rivals, West Ham United.

With Carlos Vinicius back in the Premier League, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright admitted that he didn’t wow him during his small spell at Hotspur Way, as he told Premier League Productions (09/10/22 at 1:45 pm).

“Absoutley (he has a point to prove) because he came in at Spurs, I didn’t see enough, but when I saw him he had a decent technique and looked okay,” said Wright.

“You didn’t see anything where you thought ‘wow, they have got to get that guy and give him a chance’. At Fulham, he will play and they have signed him now. He can get straight in there and impose himself upon the league.”

VINICIUS’ TIME TO SHINE

With Mitrovic on the sidelines, this is the time for Vinicius to shine and showcase that he is good enough to play Premier League football.

Whilst he didn’t exactly shine bright when in Tottenham colours, he wasn’t exactly provided with the regular starts in order to showcase his worth.

Plus, nobody has dethroned Harry Kane from a starting spot at Tottenham, and in truth, nobody will, so from that aspect, he was always fighting a losing cause.
