Danny Murphy has told The Daily Mail that he ‘loved’ watching Thiago Alcantara strut his stuff for Liverpool on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side played out an entertaining yet controversial 2-2 draw at Everton on a day that saw Thiago make his full debut.

The Reds snapped him up for £20 million from Bayern Munich last month, following a lengthy transfer saga which lasted the whole summer.

But the 29-year-old looks like he is worth the wait.

On his debut, Thiago broke a Premier League record in the win at Chelsea in September for the amount of passes completed in a 45-minute period, and yesterday played the conductor again, executing some outrageous balls which troubled the Toffees.

And former Liverpool midfielder Murphy has admitted that he’s a massive fan of the Spain international.

He said: “As a midfielder, I loved Thiago’s performance. He is so productive with his passes.

“There is a bit of Paul Scholes about him. If you stand off him, he’ll kill you with through balls. If you try to get tight and close him down, he will effortlessly pop it around you.”

There was a sour end to the match for Thiago, who was the victim of a nasty challenge by Richarlison in the dying stages.

That earned the Everton star a red card and there hasn’t been any confirmation over how bad Thiago’s injury is, but Klopp said afterwards that it ‘didn’t look good’.
