Andros Towsend has told TalkSport (27/10/20, 10:00 am start) that he is ‘sure’ reported Everton & Arsenal summer target, Wilfried Zaha, will get his move next summer if he scores ’15-20 goals’.

The Crystal Palace winger shared that it’s ‘no secret’ that his teammate ‘wanted to move’ during the recently closed transfer window.

Back in July, Arsenal’s name was once again linked with Zaha’s [the Daily Mail], whilst previously big-spenders Everton were also touted as potential suitors by the Sun (print edition, page 57, July 30).

In the end, Zaha stayed put at Selhurst Park and he has started off the season in a very strong fashion, as Townsend was pretty honest when talking about his teammate’s future.

“I think Wilf and the manager have made no secret that Wilf wanted to move this window,” Townsend told TalkSport. “It’s not like he doesn’t like Crystal Palace or he has fallen out of love. He just believes that he was destined for bigger things, which I agree with.

“But when the transfer doesn’t happen, for whatever reason, he now obviously still loves Crystal Palace, he still wants to do his best and we are seeing this season that he is playing a more advanced role. I think he’s not our only option this season.

“There are others we can play, which is allowing him to get on the ball and get 1 v 1, as supposed to last season where he was going 1 v 2, 1 v 3 or 1 v 4. And this season, he is flourishing. Long may it continue for us. If he does get 15-20 goals, like he is on course for, I am sure he will get his move.”

Last season was a bit of a disappointment for someone of Zaha’s talents, but during the early stages of this campaign, he has started off like a house on fire.

Even if his form continues, it would be a surprise to see a club like Arsenal put money on the table for him in the future because they have depth in the attacking areas now.

Plus, Palace would surely demand top dollar for their academy star and those in North London aren’t exactly known for splashing big on Premier League players.

But moving to Everton does seem the natural fit for Zaha, but a lot has to happen from now until next season, from his form and to what Carlo Ancelotti does on Merseyside.

Either way, it does seem as though Zaha’s time is running out to play for a team in Europe.
