Chris Powell has been speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post about Leeds signing Crysencio Summerville.

Powell worked with the Dutchman alongside Alan Pardew at ADO Den Haag last season, where the ex-Charlton boss got to see what the winger was capable of in the flesh.

The man who currently works alongside Gareth Southgate for England said: ‘He’s quite a free spirit out on the wing, in a good way. He’ll excite you, he’s a bag of tricks, there’s some talent there, it’s just how it’s harnessed and what the coaches demand from him.

‘He cared. That was one good trait I felt he had. He was someone who really cared about the game.’

Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta managed to land the 18-year-old for just £1.3 million earlier in the window, and while he is most likely one for the future, Powell’s comments should fill Leeds supporters with excitement.

Summerville definitely looks to be some prospect.

The Rotterdam-born forward has an impressive record for the Netherlands Under-19 side, scoring six goals in just five caps according to Transfermarkt.

He has already played a game for his new side, appearing for the Yorkshire-based outfit in an EFL Trophy game against Barrow, where he grabbed an assist.

Despite his young age, the Dutch winger gained invaluable experience last season.

He was trusted to make 21 Eredivisie appearances, scoring twice and assisting three more goals along the way as ADO Den Haag managed to avoid the drop – albeit thanks to the cancellation of the campaign due to COVID-19.

The Elland Road faithful might not see him in Bielsa’s first-team anytime soon, but all the signs point towards Summerville having a bright future at Leeds.
