Vitor Ferreira has “enormous potential” and will achieve “beautiful things” at Wolverhampton Wanderers, his former FC Porto teammate Luis Mata has told Noticias ao Minuto.
Wolves’ Chinese owners have once again put their money where their mouth is and, just days after investing a club record £35 million fee on teenage striker Fabio Silva, the Black Country giants are returning to a familiar hunting ground to secure another big-money signing.
Ferreira, a 20-year-old midfielder better known as Vitinha, is set to arrive on loan with an option to buy for about £18 million (Mail).
Given Ferreira and Silva played fewer than 300 minutes of league football between them last season, the jury is out on a pair of unproven youngsters who will set Wolves back a combined £55 million.
However, a man who rose through the ranks alongside Ferriera at Porto is confident he can follow in the footsteps of Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota and co at Molineux.
“Of course I am surprised,” Mata, a former captain of Porto’s B Team, said. “I thought Vitinha would remain at Porto. He was promoted in the middle of last season and showed a lot of quality, despite not having played so many games. It is a surprise he left for Wolverhampton. I hoped he would stay.

“Although it was a surprise, Vitinha really has a lot of quality and enormous potential. Step by step, and by gaining confidence in a different country and in a very demanding championship, I believe he will be very successful at Wolverhampton.
“He will do beautiful things.”
The Portugal U21 international will more than likely provide back-up for Neves and Joao Moutinho in central midfield, with Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo making it clear he wants to add some much-needed depth to one of the smallest squads in the Premier League.
