Ben Foster has claimed that Ashley Young will be ‘running things’ inside Aston Villa’s dressing room after returning to the club this summer, as he told his own YouTube channel.
The English goalkeeper thinks Young is a ‘brilliant, brilliant’ signing for Villa and someone who is ‘worth their weight in gold’.
Young has started all three Premier League games for Villa this season, playing out on the flanks, at left-back and then in the middle of the park.
He has already shown his worth during these opening stages of the new Premier League campaign and is proving why Dean Smith has added him to his ranks.
Foster lauded the Villa new boy, who he thinks will be ‘the chairman’ inside that B6 dressing room.
“They have had a very, very good window,” said Foster. “The players they have got in have been very, very good business.
“Ashley Young, experienced, he’s the kind of player that will offer you so much on the pitch because he’s still a player and he is still a baller.
“But, in the dressing room, just keeping the standards high, day in and day out.
“He will be that guy. He will be running things. He will be the chairman. He will be making sure that the ship is running tight. And players like him are worth their weight in gold, honestly a brilliant, brilliant signing.”
Young was mainly brought back to provide cover for Matt Targett at left-back, but injuries and COVID issues have perhaps resulted in him playing more minutes than expected.
Even though the former England international turned 36 this summer, he hasn’t for one second shown any signs that he is coming to the end of his career.
If anything, he has been able to match the young legs around him, as he proved last Saturday.
Young played in the middle of the park alongside 17-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka as Villa recorded a 1-1 draw with Brentford.
