West Ham United boss David Moyes has told Football London that Jesse Lingard will be in his side’s squad to face Aston Villa this evening.
Lingard only joined up with his West Ham teammates earlier this week, but his physical condition has already impressed Moyes in training.
And although the Scottish boss refused to confirm whether Lingard would start, he did say that he would be brought into West Ham’s match day squad.
“He’s a lean boy and in good shape, doesn’t carry any excess weight, he’ll be in and around the squad. Will he start? I can’t confirm that,” Moyes said.
“I hope to have him in and around the squad tomorrow.”
If Lingard does play against Villa he will do so with a point to prove.
The England international has been starved of game time at Manchester United this season, but it is expected that he could become an important part of West Ham’s side.
The Hammers are going well this term, with Moyes’s side now hovering just outside the top four.
Lingard should give them more energy and creativity from the front, and his arrival may just aid their attacking plans.
If West Ham can beat Villa this evening they could close the gap to Leicester City in fourth down to just one point, providing other results go in their favour.
