Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jesse Marsch has delivered an update on Joe Gelhardt after he seemingly picked up an injury for the U23s this week.

Gelhardt is very much a part of the first-team at Leeds nowadays, but the odd appearance for the U23s isn’t uncommon for the striker.

Unfortunately though, Leeds’ plan to play Gelhardt in the youth game seemed to backfire this as he limped off with an injury, and with Patrick Bamford currently out of action, the last thing Leeds need are any more injuries to their strikers.

Luckily though, Gelhardt’s injury wasn’t all that severe, and Marsch says that while he’s not trained fully this week, he’s expecting him to be available on Saturday.

What’s been said?

Marsch gave an update on Gelhardt.

“So one of the reasons why I didn’t include him in my injury report is because he hasn’t trained every day this week. We think he will train tomorrow, and we think he’ll be available for the match at the weekend, how we use him and the situation for him, we’ll evaluate that as we go,” Marsch said.

Great news

This is fantastic to hear.

Gelhardt has been such a bright spark for Leeds this season, and the Whites could all-but seal Premier League survival with a victory over Watford this weekend.

Gelhardt certainly knows how to show up in this type of game. After all, he netted a dramatic late winner against Norwich just last month, and if he can repeat the trick here, Leeds will be well on their way to avoiding relegation.
