Reported Celtic target Shon Weissman will be allowed to leave Austrian football behind if someone is willing to meet Wolfsberger’s asking price, president Dietmar Riegler tells Sky.
Odsonne Edouard’s name has re-appeared in the gossip columns this weekend and, with Leeds United and Crystal Palace apparently interested, there is no guarantee that the £25 million Frenchman will be wearing green and white next season.
Edouard, to his credit, has made it clear that he would love to stick around for one more year and lead Celtic to ‘ten in a row.
But with even Scotland’s biggest clubs hit hard by the ongoing financial crisis, the Hoops could yet receive an offer that they simply cannot refuse in today’s market.
And, according to The Telegraph in May, a replacement for Edouard has been identified already.
With a remarkable 37 goals in 40 games in all competitions, the unstoppable Weissman actually outscored Celtic’s fearsome Frenchman by ten in 2019/20, finding the net against Borussia Monchengladbach and Roma in Europe too.
Wolfsberger have given their coffers a timely boost by qualifying for the Europa League this weekend, but as president Riegler points out, the Israel international is far from ‘unsellable’.
“If he wants to go and finds a club that meets our demands, he’ll be able to go,” Riegler says. “He certainly has the opportunity to be just as successful in big leagues.”
Weissman is not the quickest, nor the most skilful, but his remarkable finishing skills means he should have no problem adapting to life in Scotland.
With James Forrest, Callum McGregor, Moi Elyounoussi and co providing ammunition, do not rule out Weissman breaking the 30-goal barrier at Celtic too.
