Well, Liverpool are no closer to knowing who is going to replace Gini Wijnaldum.
The Dutchman was released by the Reds after five years at Anfield a little earlier this summer, ultimately joining Paris Saint-Germain.
And although quite a few midfielders have been linked, it remains to be seen who Liverpool – who have missed their chance to sign Saul Niguez – wind up getting.
Well, that’s if they get anyone at all.
Remember, Jurgen Klopp still has a £52 million midfielder in the form of Naby Keita who could perhaps be considered.
Problem is, the former Leipzig star has only managed 53 Premier League games under Klopp in three years due to injury.
But in terms of talent, Keita has shown that he has bags of ability and some Liverpool supporters are discussing whether he could explode next season as Wijnaldum’s replacement.
Too risky
What a shame it would be if Liverpool did gamble on Keita and wound up paying the price for it.
With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all back, Klopp’s side have a chance of picking up where they left off at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
Last season should’ve reminded Liverpool fans that when big players leave – like Dejan Lovren – it is always better to replace them rather than going with what you have.
And it is simply too risky to ask Keita to play an entire season, as much as Wijnaldum did.
