Ian Poveda scored his first goal for Blackburn on Saturday, as the Leeds loanee helped his side record a 3-1 win over Sheffield United.
The 21-year-old scored and assisted during the game, as Tony Mowbray’s men secured a valuable three points, only days after conceding seven against Fulham.
After the game, Helder Costa, who is on his own loan spell in Spain, simply posted on Instagram ‘my guy, whilst Poveda’s current club teammate, Tyrhys Dolan added: ‘My guy. Many more to come bro’.
Ryan Nyambe, who started the game at Ewood Park, also shared his thoughts and stated: ‘On fire today G’.
It was clearly a successful afternoon for Poveda, who since moving to the play-off chasers, has only started three league matches.
But he will be hoping yesterday’s eye-catching display will keep him in the first-team picture.
Even though Rovers got smashed last time out by Fulham, they are still sitting seventh in the table, level on points with sixth-placed QPR and six-point off third-placed West Brom.
If someone like Poveda can produce more performances, like the one yesterday, then there’s no reason why Blackburn can’t finish in those play-off places.
Leeds fans know full well what that journey is like, and given that they stumbled down that road, it is the worse feeling when you’re not on the winning side.
But it was even better for Marcelo Bielsa’s men that the following season they were able to secure promotion by winning the league outright.
It has been some few years since Blackburn, who are one-time Premier League winners, have tasted top-flight football and they will want to end that sooner rather than later.
