Birmingham City are trialling a teenage defender from the same non-league club Arsenal signed a fullback from in January.

Remeao Hutton, who is 18 and plays as a right-back, is on the books at Hednesford Town who sold Cohen Bramall to the Gunners for a fee said to be in the region of £40,000.

Hutton played the closing 28 minutes of the Birmingham under-23 side’s 2-2 draw with Bristol City earlier this week and coach Richard Beale sounded impressed when speaking to the club’s YouTube channel.

“Early days – we’ve seen him a couple of times in training sessions – and [he] came on tonight and I thought he did well, slotted in there nicely, so we’ll see how that develops,” Beale said.

Hutton has made only six appearances for seventh-tier Hednesford this season, spending some of it on loan at Walsall Wood as well as Heather St John’s who are in the ninth and tenth tiers respectively.

He was previously in Walsall’s academy and was once on trial at West Brom.

In recent years a number of players have risen to prominence after been plucked from non-league football, including England internationals Jamie Vardy, Chris Smalling and Michail Antonio.

Whether Hutton can go on earn a move to Birmingham, yet alone reach those heights, remains to be seen but Hednesford’s scouting certainly seems to be working.
