Ray Parlour has backed Aaron Ramsey to make a return to the Premier League, but join Liverpool and not Arsenal, as he told talkSPORT (28/07/21 at 9:35 am).

The Highbury legend was asked why Arsenal aren’t looking to bring back the 30-year-old this summer, but he pointed towards Mikel Arteta recently handing Emile Smith Rowe a new deal.

Ramsey has actually been linked with a return to the Premier League this summer, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham all getting a mention.

But Parlour thinks, following the departure of Gini Wijnaldum, the Reds need to replace the Dutchman and Ramsey ‘would score goals’ for them from midfield.

“Whether they (Arsenal) would take him back or not,” said Parlour. “They have Smith Rowe, who has just signed a new contract and he has the number 10 shirt, he is going to improve next season.

“I think Ramsey, would Liverpool suit him? Again, it’s all on the wages. What sort of wages he’s on. His contract is not up.

“Exactly (Liverpool need to find a replacement for Wijnaldum) and he would score you goals from midfield.”

It hasn’t really worked out for Ramsey at Juventus, as he struggled with game time and injury since leaving Arsenal on a free transfer in 2019.

The 67-cap Wales international (transfermarkt) might have the all-round qualities that would interest Premier League parties, but his wages and injury record would be of concern.

For Arsenal, Ramsey would walk straight into their team because they are missing that attacking intent, bite and goalscoring ability from the middle of the park.

And whilst those on Merseyside need to find a Gini Wijnaldum replacement, Ramsey isn’t the player they should look towards because he doesn’t possess the defensive qualities, with or without the ball, that the Dutchman showcased on a weekly basis.
