Laura Woods has stated that Aaron Ramsdale would ‘absolutely love’ being Arsenal’s captain, as she told talkSPORT (13/12/21 at 6:25 am).

The Radio and TV presenter, who is an Arsenal fan, praised the goalkeeper for being a ‘brilliant character’ and proving doubters wrong this season.

Aubameyang is still Arsenal’s leader, but after he was, for a second time, disciplined by Mikel Arteta for off-the-field issues, it has raised the question as to whether he will continue on in that role.

After being left out of the matchday squad that beat Southampton over the weekend, many are questioning whether he will be back for their midweek match against West Ham.

On top of that, will he be wearing the captain’s armband?

If he isn’t, then Woods has backed Ramsdale to take to that role and thinks his infectious ways makes him a lot more likeable.

“I bet he doesn’t feel like it’s too soon,” said Woods. “I bet if you gave it to him, then he would absolutely love it. He would probably be really good at it.

“I don’t know what it takes to be in that dressing room and to be a captain because I have never been in one of those dressing rooms.

“But I have to say I think he’s incredible. I love his spirit. I love all his reactions to all of the goals. I love his reactions to making saves.

“I just think he’s a brilliant character and they have been crying out for him, so I am really glad because at the beginning of the season there was a lot of mentions of how much he cost. But he has blown that out of the water.”

Usually, when a team scores, the camera pans to the goalscorer to see his reaction to the goal, as well as the crowds.

But Ramsdale can have a camera on himself because his reaction to Arsenal scoring is always a picture.

Before he could stand in between the sticks for the Gunners, he was being questioned by fans and the media as to whether they were right to pay such big bucks for his talents.

But it’s fair to say that he has answered those critics in a pretty emphatic fashion and is now one of Arsenal’s first names on the teamsheet.
