Speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher has been speaking about Harry Kane’s situation at Tottenham and his future in north London.

The striker was strongly linked with a move away from Spurs last summer, but things seem to have settled down on that front, for now at least.

However, Carragher is still of the opinion that Kane would like to leave Spurs, but he believes that he may not be able to find a club that wants him at this point as Manchester City turn their attention to Erling Haaland.

What’s been said?

Carragher gave his view on Kane’s future.

“I cannot see Harry Kane leaving Tottenham now, I think he’d like to leave in the summer if he got the chance, but I think that ship has sailed with Man City,he’s a year older, he’s still a fantastic player, but there’s talk of Haaland coming in, it’s about winning things and that’s why Harry Kane wanted to move, it’s nothing against Spurs, but at the end of his career he doesn’t want to be known as the guy who scored loads of goals but didn’t win anything,” Carragher said.

Bad timing

Unfortunately for Kane, this is terrible timing for a move away from Tottenham.

Look at the teams that could potentially afford Kane. Manchester City look to be getting Erling Haaland, Manchester United already have Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid are signing Kylian Mbappe and Chelsea are in a bit of a nightmare scenario with their owners.

Soon to be 29, Kane would not be a good investment for any club at this point. He’d cost massive money, and while he’d score plenty of goals for any team, he’d have minimal resale value in a couple of years’ time.

Kane may well want to leave, but as Carragher says, he might not have a viable escape route.
