Sunderland linked striker Dennon Lewis would ‘like a move’ to the Football League, Wealdstone manager Dean Brennon has admitted to West London Sport.

While the Black Cats might have become reality TV stars of late, thanks to the Balearic stylings of Charlie Methven and their salt of the earth support, one of their summer targets is also as comfortable in front of the cameras as he is in front of goal.

Non-league hotshot Lewis could take the less-than-familiar route from Love Island to League One, with the Sun reporting in July that Sunderland have shown an interest.

The one-time Falkirk and Crawley Town youngster is also a target for goal-shy Huddersfield Town and previously had a trial at Charlton Athletic.

With Wealdstone preparing for a return to the National League, after winning the sixth-tier title last season, manager Brennon is understandably keen to find out whether his star striker will be staying or going.

“It’s still a little bit up in the air at the moment,” he said.

“You understand from the player’s point of view that ideally he’d like a move. It is frustrating, I can’t lie. Ideally you just want the situation sorted out but I’m afraid it’s part of the business.

“There’s no bid that’s come in for the player, so I don’t know what (the interested clubs) are thinking, whether they want to sign Dennon or not.”

Sunderland fans will be hoping Lewis finds scoring rather easier at the Stadium of Light than he did on ITV2.

It is no secret that Phil Parkinson’s side are hoping to lure a new number nine to the Stadium of Light, admitting his interest in lower league veteran Danny Graham and little-known Argentine Mateo Bajamich.

Sunderland are operating under the constraints of a restrictive salary cap, although Lewis will not command the sort of wages demanded by the likes of Graham.
