Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Erik Ten Hag has admitted that he’d have loved to have signed Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham.

Ajax were strongly linked with a move for Bergwijn last month, but after his brace against Leicester put him back in Spurs’ good books, he stayed in north London – much to the frustration of Ten Hag.

Indeed, the Dutch manager wasn’t very happy that he was unable to sign Bergwijn, claiming that the winger would have been perfect for his team.

What’s been said?

Ten hag admitted just how much he wanted to sign Bergwijn.

“We would have gotten even better with him,” Ten Hag said.

“Then we would have had another weapon. And the more weapons you have, the more successful you can be. He’d have been perfect for us.”

Ten Hag then made it clear that he’s still got an eye on Bergwijn, saying: “I remain very interested in a player with his profile.”

One to watch

Bergwijn may not have joined Ajax in January, but this certainly seems to be one to watch for the summer.

As Ten Hag says, Bergwijn remains on his radar, and with Brian Brobbey also calling the winger ‘fantastic’ it seems as though he has a number of admirers in Amsterdam.

The arrival of Dejan Kulusevski brings about even more competition in Bergwijn’s spot, so don’t be too shocked if Spurs are open to offers in the summer.
