It says a lot about the current state of affairs at Old Trafford that many a Manchester United fan would like to see their £80,000-a-week forgotten man handed a fresh start under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
After all, with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof consistently making a mockery of their combined £120 million-plus transfer fees, surely a 61-time Argentina international deserves a chance to prove that he could do a little better?
With reports suggesting that bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United are weighing up a January move for Marcos Rojo – if they can find a way around his £80,000-a-week wages that is – the United fanbase has been split into two distinct factions.
On one hand, there are those who believe Rojo, a £16 million Louis van Gaal signing who hasn’t played for the club in 13 months, should have been binned off years ago.

The pro-Rojo camp, however, believe the former Sporting Lisbon star’s aggressive, all-action approach would make him a useful addition to a defence which is sorely lacking in character or intensity.
The Mail adds that Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder tried to sign Rojo over the summer and will make a new approach in a few weeks, with his Blades side having made the worst start of any team in Premier League history.
Wilder wants a left-sided central defender capable of thriving in a back three, and Rojo ticks a lot of boxes for a club who are yet to replace the injured Jack O’Connell.
